How Long Will My License Be Suspended After a DUI in Kentucky

As with all of the other punishments for a DUI in Kentucky, the amount of time your license will be suspended will depend on the DUI charge. In some cases, you may be able to apply for a hardship license to allow you to drive for the purposes of:

  • Employment
  • Medical care
  • School
  • Attending an alcohol awareness course
  • Attending a driver improvement course
  • Attending court-ordered counseling or other programs

DUI First Offense – Your license will be suspended for 30 to 120 days if you are over 21 years of age and 30 to 180 days if you are under 21 years of age. After the suspension period ends and you complete alcohol treatment, your license may be reinstated. A hardship license may be granted after 30 days.

DUI Second Offense – If you are convicted of DUI in Kentucky for a second time, your license will be suspended for a minimum of 12 months up to 18 months. After one year, a judge may grant a hardship license.

DUI Third Offense – This charge carries a license revocation between 24 and 36 months; however, after two years, a judge may grant a hardship license for good cause.

DUI Fourth Offense – The penalty for the fourth offense is license revocation for five years with no chance of obtaining a hardship license during the five-year revocation period.
