Can An SSDI Medical Condition Get You Approved for Disability Automatically?

Can An SSDI Medical Condition Get You Approved for Disability Automatically? Are you suffering from a medical condition that prevents you from obtaining employment? Has your disability caused you to lose your job? Are you having difficulty paying your bills due to your disability? If so, you may qualify to receive Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), especially if you have an SSDI medical condition. Disability insurance provides financial support in the form of monthly monetary benefits for individuals who are unable to work due to a mental or physical disability.

The process of qualifying for disability benefits can be complicated even for individuals who have an SSDI medical condition. Hiring an experienced Social Security disability attorney can decrease the stress and frustration many people experience when dealing with the Social Security Administration (SSA). The Social Security attorneys of Musselwhite Meinhart & Staples, PSC have extensive experience assisting individuals as they apply for Social Security disability. Contact our office to schedule an appointment to discuss your SSDI claim.

What is an  SSDI Medical Condition?

An SSDI medical condition appears on the List of Impairments. This is a list of medical conditions divided into sections corresponding to each major body system. It describes the SSDI medical conditions or impairments that are considered so severe they prevent a person from performing any gainful activity. An SSDI medical condition on this list is assumed to be permanent and/or result in the death of the individual.

If your medical condition is on this list, SSA presumes that the condition prevents you from financially supporting yourself. For all other medical conditions, evidence must be provided to the SSA to demonstrate that the condition is expected to continue for at least one year and the medical condition prevents the person from performing any gainful activity. The list of SSDI medical conditions or impairments only applies to one step in the process to qualify for disability benefits. If the individual has an SSDI medical condition that is on the List of Impairments, this will typically be sufficient to establish that an individual is disabled.

However, simply because a person has an SSDI medical condition does not mean that he or she is automatically approved for Social Security disability benefits. It simply means that the person moves to the next step in the SSDI process. A person with an SSDI medical condition must meet all other requirements before being approved for Social Security disability benefits. Because everyone must follow the same rules and procedures when applying for disability benefits, it is a wise decision to retain the services of an experienced SSDI attorney to guide you through the process and to avoid mistakes that could result in a denial or a delay of your SSDI claim.
